ニューヨークの地下鉄について・・・
70−80年代は怖くて乗れない, トラブル続き, 落書きだらけ, 犯罪の温床みたいな存在だった地下鉄が, 一気に安全になったことで知られるニューヨークの地下鉄。現在は世界で7番目に年間乗客数が多いことで知られています。

2007年に行ったときは肉声放送が多かった（というかそういう路線をメインに乗ったのかもしれない）ですが, 最近は自動放送が増えたみたいです。自動放送をみてみましょう。

放送スクリプト・要点
1 「＊＊行き」を表すとき, 終点から遠いところでは行き先を特定しない
語順：This is a 「方面」bound 「路線名」「種別」 train (via 「経由」)
「元町・中華街」ではなく「横浜」というのと同じ
2 つぎは・まもなく はThe next stop is ** / This is **
終点に着くときはThe next and last stop is **
3 「お乗り換えください」はTransfer is available to the ** trains.
4 路線名はわかりやすいよう数字またはアルファベット1文字
現地人が作ったのでシンプル。
上記の「まとめ」の他にも 何にAがついていて, 何にTheがついているか確認してみてください。
「不審物を発見された場合は通報してね」に関連したと秀逸な標語があります。 それがこちら:

なんていう放送もありました。この自動放送を聞いたのは1回きりなので本当はもっと長いんだけど, まじか・・・
個人的にこの乗り換え案内が好きです。
「4ブロックも先の駅まで歩いて、そこから発車する電車に乗っていただいても、乗り継ぎは無料です」

Lex-63 という駅ができたのは比較的新しいようですが,
「全米一激混みの4, 5, 6電車の混雑を少しでも軽減したい」
という意図がみえます。Central Park東側には慢性的に地下鉄が足らないようです。

2017年元日にはCentral Park東側住民の悲願であった地下鉄 (2 Av Subway) がようやく開業しました。
