10.16 歌詞: Frosty the Snowman - Learn English with FUN!

1950年のシングル。クリスマスソングとしては比較的新しい部類に入ります・・といえども70年前！！トナカイにRudolphと名付けてみたり, 雪だるまをFrostyと呼んでみたり。シングルが出てから20年弱。Frosty the Snowman のアニメ版が作られ, それのテーマ曲にもなりました。

Corncob pipe は下の画像検索に示すような　タバコを吸うための道具

Frosty の目は石炭, 鼻は洋服のボタン, このCorncob pipeでタバコを吸っている

子ども用のアニメでタバコのパイプを登場させているあたりが1960年代・・・という感じですね。2000年代にもなるとワンピースのサンジ(英名もSanji) が日本版でタバコを吸っているシーンでは, アメリカ版ではことごとくタバコが消去されていた, と聞いています。

1950年であれば石炭は寒い冬に暖をとるための身近なアイテムだったのかもしれませんが, 石油や電気に主役が移ってからは遠い存在になりました。

・Cop: 警察。police と同義だが一音節のため, 口語では複数形のcops がよく使われます。

・Holler: shout / cry と同義とのこと。

雪だるまが"catch me if you can (捕まえられるもんなら捕まえてみい)" と叫びながら猛ダッシュし, 警察の前で一瞥をくれ, ちょろっとだけ止まってみたものの警察に「止まれ」と怒られたが, 「止まれ言われても, むり〜急いでるねん(今日は暑いから溶けてなくなるから), また来るわーー」と言い残し, 足早に立ち去った, みたいな様子を思い浮かべれられればいいと思います！
