21-3 野球の英語実況で使われる用語

先の投稿で「野球をテレビで見ながら, 見たものをそのまま話す」ことが英語の勉強になるとご紹介しました。

 9イニング全てをしゃべってみると, かなり疲れます。笑

野球用語はカタカナが大変多く, 下の一覧をご覧いただければその和製英語の多さに驚きを覚えるものと思います。フォアボールもデッドボールも日本語です。

以下, 日本語はカタカナで, 英語は英語で表記します。

野球の道具

ボール：ball / baseball

1-3塁：base / bag

本塁：home plate / plate / home

グラブ・グローブ：glove / mitt

キャッチャーミット：mitt 

プロテクター：pads / guards

打者が打席に立ってから　投手が投げ終わるまで

バッターが打席に立つ、ピッチャーがマウンドに立つ

・湯舟がマウンドに立つ：Yufune is on the mound / On the mound is Yufune

・ジェリーサンズが打席に立つ：Here's Jerry Sands at the plate / Jerry's in the (batter's) box

・佐藤がネクストバッターサークルに立つ：Sato's at the on-deck circle / Sato's on deck

・3打席目：third plate appearance

・打数：at-bats (3打数はthree at-bats)

・先頭打者(一番打者)：the lead-off batter

・四番打者：the cleanup (日本語のクリーンアップは3−5番を指すが, 英語では4番のみ)

・五番打者：fifth batter / batting fifth is ...

・エンゼルスの本拠地で大谷が打席に立つときの場内放送

"Batting second, designated hitter number 17, Shohei Ohtani"

カウントの読みかた

・0-1：oh and one, the count / the count, nothing and one / oh-one count / no balls, one strike

・1-0：one and oh / one ball

・3−1：three balls, one strike / three-one delivery

・1-1 または 2-2 : Count's even, X ball(s), X strike(s)

投手が投げる

・ピッチャー投げた：Here's the (next) pitch / The pitch is on its way / Here's the delivery

(使用例) From X-X count,  here's the pitch

・本日80球め：Here's pitch number eighty

メジャーの実況の方々は「ピッチャー第X球投げた」とはあまりいわないようです。。

・球がファールになる：fouls it off / fouls it back / fouls it behind the plate / ball goes out of play / ground ball and it's fouled / it's into the stands 

投球・コース

・ストライク・ボール（見逃し）：called strike / ball

・空振り：swing and a miss

・内角低め：in-low corner

・高め：a high ball / an elevated ball

・あさっての方向：way high (outside) / throws out to nowhere

・少しだけ外れる：misses a little (high / to the outside / inside)

・95マイルの直球：a 95 mile-an-hour fastball

・76マイルの変化球：a 76 mile-an-hour breaking ball

・フォーシーム：a four-seam fastball / a four-seamer

・カットボール：a cutter

・スライダー：a slider 

・70マイルのカーブ(直球と25 mphの落差！)：a curveball, 70, (a 25-mile difference from his fast ball!)

・フォーク/スプリット：a splitter

・チェンジアップ：a changeup

・ナックル：a knucleball

シュート。。。あまり聞かないです。違う表現に置き換えられているのか、単に投げる人が少ないのか・・

・牽制アウト：a pickoff

・一塁へ牽制する：checks first base / checks the runner / tries to pick him off / a pickoff toss to first base

三振・四死球・ほか

・空振三振：swing and a miss (for the third strike / for a strikeout)  / a K

・見逃三振：caught looking / got him looking / strike three called / a backward K

・三振にたおれた：struck him out 

・フォアボール：walk / ball four (He walks / reaches first base on ballsのように使う)

・ (記録用語としての)フォアボール BB / base on balls

・押し出し：(a) bases-loaded walk / an RBI walk

・サヨナラ押し出し：(a) walk-off walk

・デッドボール：(a) hit by pitch (He's hit / It's a hit by pitch のように使う) 

a dead ball は日本語の「ボールデッド」の意

・サヨナラデッドボール：(a) walk-off hit by pitch

・ボーク：balk

・サヨナラボーク：(a) walk-off balk

球を打ってフェアゾーンに飛ぶ

球を打った瞬間

・バットが折れる：bat is broken / broken bat / shattered bat

・ゴロ：ground ball to (場所) / grounded to (場所)

・内野を抜けた： can't reach on that one / couldn't get it (and it's a) base hit / single

・ベースの前ではねた：a bounded right in front of the base

・勢いが死んだ：momentum is killed

・ライナー：line drive (to 場所) / a liner

フライ

・普通のフライ：lifts it / fly ball (to 場所)

・高いフライ：(high) up in the air - (to 場所)

・短いフライ：popped up (to 内野・shallow 外野)

場所

・一/二/三塁手：first / second / third baseman

・内野/外野：infield / outfield

・左翼手/中堅/右翼手：left / center / right fielder

・捕手/投手前：in front of the catcher / pitcher

・三塁線上：on the third base line 

・浅い・深い：shallow / deep (in) left / center / right field

・左中間：left-center field

・右中間: right-center field

・(フェンス際の) ウォーニングゾーン：warning zone / track

・フェンス直撃：hits (directly to) the wall / (bounces) off the wall

fence は金網のことをいいますので, 立派なスタジアムではあまり使われないかと思います。

安打各種

・ヒット：a base hit / single

・タイムリーヒット：an RBI single / base hit

・内野安打：an infield single

・二塁打・ツーベースヒット：a double / a two-bagger

・スライディングがいらない（余裕の）二塁打：a standing double

・エンタイトルツーベース：a ground rule double ("entitled" とは言わない)

・三塁打：a triple

・三点タイムリースリーベース：a three-RBI triple / a three-run triple

・本塁打：it's a home run / see ya / good bye baseball / gone / it's behind (over) the wall

・サヨナラヒット/本塁打：a walk-off single / home run

・ランニングホームラン：an inside-the-park home run

・サイクルヒット：hitting for the cycle

犠打関係

・犠牲バント/送りバント：a sac bunt / a sacrifice bunt

・セーフティバント：bunt for a base hit / a drag bunt

・スクイズ：a squeeze play (suicide squeeze / safety squeeze)

・犠牲フライ：a sac fly / a sacrifice fly

・タッチアップ：a tag up

打った球をみた野手の動き

フライを捕る

gets / catches the ball / makes the play / the ball is caught

the ball is in the mitt

捕り損ねる

drops / loses / misses / unable to catch

ゴロを捌く

・きれいに捌く：toss(es) / deliver(s) / throws it to first (選手名)

・猛烈な送球：fires it (to first)  

・サード（ショート）ゴロを捌く：across the diamond / from deep

・素手でとる：a bear-handed catch

・逆シングルでとる：a back-handed catch

・ダブルプレー：glove toss to second and then to first to complete a double play /

   ground ball to short and it's a beautiful 6−4−3 double play

・(送球後) 塁でセーフになる：(the throw is) not in time

・(送球後) 塁でアウトになる：(the throw is) in time

捌き損ねる

・送球ミス：throws and it's (way) off target, E5  //  throws out to nowhere

・捕球ミス：and the first baseman is unable to catch the ball - and the error is charged to the first baseman

・塁から離れる：the leg came off the base

・グラブに当たったが捕れなかった：hits the glove but unable to make the play

野手の動き

・横に飛ぶ：dives, leaps onto

・横に飛んだ結果回転する：rolls

・縦に飛ぶ：leaps up, jumps

・フェンスに登る：climbs onto the fence, wall

・背走する：runs back / still chasing the ball / showing his back

・こちらを向く：turns, flips around / shows his face

・ベースカバーをする：covers the base

・一塁まで競争する：races to first

・走者にタッチする：tags the runner (touchは使わない)

走者の動き

・同点のランナー：a game-tying runner

・逆転のランナー：a go-ahead runner

・ランナースタート：runner goes

・盗塁：steal / stolen base(s)

・盗塁を試みる：attempt a steal

・10回試みて8回成功：he's eight for ten (in steal attempts)

・進塁する(しない)：runner advances (does not advance / stays)

・残塁する：(a) runner(s) left on base

・牽制タッチアウトとなる：picked off

・(意外にも1塁を蹴って)2塁に進塁を仕掛ける：he's going for two

・点が入る：XX scores / comes back home / scores a run

(「点」はpointと訳しがちですが, pointはあまり聞かないです)

アウト各種表現

・1アウト：one out / one down / gets the first out of the inning / retires one

・2アウト：two outs / two down

・回の先頭から2者連続アウト：two up, two down / retired two in a row 

・アウトになる：retire

・あと1人：(only) one away

・あと1球：(only) one (a) strike away

ランナーの位置

・1/2/3塁 Runner at first / second / third 

・1・2塁 Runners at first and second (他の組み合わせでも同様) 

・2・3塁 Two runners on scoring positions

・1・3塁 Runners at the corners; Two runners across the diamond

・満塁 Bases loaded

回が終わってスコアが画面に出ているとき・CMにはいる前

・三者凡退となった: it's a one-two-three inning / 3 up, 3 down

・藪がジャイアンツ打線を3人で抑えた: Yabu's retired the Giants three in a row 

・2回表が終わった: Top 2nd is over / As we head into the bottom of the 2nd

・3回裏が終わった: That concludes the first third of the game / After 3 innings, ... 

・0-0: no scores / both teams still scoreless / we still have nothing on the board

・T 1 - 0 E: one-nothing Tigers lead

・1点差でタイガースが勝っている: it's a one-run ball game, Tigers on top / Tigers lead (up) by one

・2点差でタイガースが負けている: Tigers trail (down) by two

・タイガースが3点差に詰め寄った：Tigers now cut the lead to three / cuts into a three run lead

・この回にタイガースが1点取った: Tigers have scratched a one on the board / Tigers scored another run this inning

・タイガース大量リード：Tigers now have a hefty lead

・CMのあとで: We'll be right back / Don't go anywhere

・ゲームセット：(the ball)game's over

そのほか

記録

・先発10試合４勝２敗：4 and 2 record in 10 starts

・防御率2.41：two point four one ERA / two forty one ERA (earned run average)

・打率.289：two eighty-nine average / hits (hitting) two eighty-nine

・打率3割以上：hits three hundred plus

・得点圏打率.485：hitting four eighty-five when runners are on scoring positions (長い・・)

・打点41：forty-one RBIs (アールビーアイズ) (runs batted-in)

・きょう4打数2安打1四球：He's two for four (2-4と書く) tonight with a walk 

数字の読み方

(例) 1-2

one to two と読めば, スコアが1対2

one and two と読めば, カウントが1ボール2ストライク；または投手の1勝2敗

one for two と読めば, 2打数1安打

(例)6−3

six-three と読めば,　ショートから一塁へ送球された意味

その他書き出してみようとすれば, 描ききれないほど表現があるのでしょうが, おいおい追加していきます。
